Update, Sept 2026: ProtoQuiz no longer shows ads. The free tier now includes 3 per day of each generated feature.
After three months of rebuilding core systems, ProtoQuiz 2.0 is out. It's the biggest update since launch: better extraction, better scenarios, and far fewer failures.

Extraction, rebuilt
In v1.x, extraction was inconsistent. Some protocols worked perfectly; too many came back with errors or incomplete medication lists. For 2.0 we rebuilt the pipeline from scratch. Uploads dropped from 2-3 minutes to about 80 seconds, and it now works for the vast majority of protocols.
v1.x Issues
- 2-3 minute upload time
- Inconsistent results
- Frequent failures
- Incomplete data
v2.0 Improvements
- ~80 second upload time
- Reliable results
- Works for most protocols
- Complete medication data
What still doesn't work
- Short formularies (1-2 pages): not enough context for accurate extraction.
- Table of contents pages: lists of drugs with no dosing are filtered out on purpose.
- Highly non-standard formats: unusual layouts or terminology can still cause issues.
For standard full-length protocols, upload your PDF, wait 80 seconds, and you get medication data with page citations.
Scenarios for everyone
Scenarios are now open to all users at 1 per day. They're expensive to generate, and one a day keeps them sustainable at our scale. Everyone also gets unlimited pharmacology quizzes, Learn Mode with spaced repetition, 1 algorithm quiz per day, and page citations on everything.
Scenarios are also better: more accurate, more realistic, and they now open with a dispatch screen.
Try it again
If ProtoQuiz failed on your protocol in v1.x, re-upload it. If it still doesn't work, tell me: bug report in the app, email, or a comment below. I read all of it, and that's how the app gets better.
What's next
We're in early stages of a training system for EMS agencies: help your providers learn your protocols, onboard faster and track competency across the team. If your agency wants to test it, reach out. Otherwise, the focus is keeping 2.0 stable for the 500+ providers already using it.
