Setup and billing

How does setup work?

Send us your protocol PDF, plus your scope of practice chart if it is a separate file. We build the question bank on our side, with every question checked against your document and cited to its page. You are live 7 days after we receive it.

What if our protocols change?

Send the new PDF. We update the questions against it, and crews see them on their next session. We can also quiz your providers on exactly what changed.

How much extra work is this for our agency?

Very little. It is set and forget: send us your protocols and we do the heavy lifting. We build the training, host it on your own subdomain and keep it current. Crews open it by link in any browser, with nothing to install.

How does billing work?

Priced per provider, billed quarterly. Tell us your agency size and we'll send a quote. Custom features for your agency are included, with no add-ons or tiers.

How much money does it save?

At least $160 saved per provider a year. Over $16,000 a year for a 100-provider agency, before CE. Every input runs low.

  1. 25% turnover = 25 new hires × $8,000 to replace each = $200,000 a year (AAA via EMS1: 20 to 36% turnover, $6,780 EMT, $9,113 paramedic)
  2. About 35% of that is training. ProtoQuiz cuts 20% of it = $14,000
  3. Training officer: 2 hours a week off quiz building and tracking = 100 hours × $23.15 = $2,315
  4. $16,315 ÷ 100 = at least $160 per provider

Plus about $240 per provider in CE. One 5-minute quiz per shift logs about 10 hours a year for your CE record (your agency grants the CE). The same 10 hours as a paid class: 100 providers × 10 hours × $23.15 = $23,150, plus 50 instructor hours = $1,158. About $24,300 a year, before overtime, backfill and course fees.

Why it is a floor. $23.15 an hour is the median from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics for EMTs and paramedics combined (May 2025), before benefits. Paramedics alone earn about $29, and training officers more. The 35% training share, 20% cut and 2 hours a week are our estimates, all at the low end.

Not counted: mistakes. Every QA/QI case is paid review and remediation time, and preventing one medication error that would have become a lawsuit can save more than all of the above.

How is our data handled?

ProtoQuiz stores no patient information, and each agency's data is kept separate. Details are on the Trust and Security page, and security questionnaires go to security@protoquiz.com.

The questions

How do we know the questions are right?

Every question is checked against your protocol and cites the page it came from, so anyone can verify it.

What if we disagree with a question?

Tell us and we fix it. If your medical direction and our content disagree, your medical direction wins.

Are questions matched to certification level?

Yes, using your own scope of practice chart. An EMT is not drilled on paramedic drugs and doses.

Day to day

How much time does it take a provider?

One short quiz per shift, on a phone, between calls. No class to schedule.

What does a training officer get?

The topics your crew is weakest on, by name, and a way to assign training on them in a couple of clicks. Every attempt is dated and named, so your training record is ready for your medical director.

What does ProtoQuiz not do?

It is a training tool, not medical direction, and it does not grant CE: it logs training time for your CE record, and your agency's CE program or medical director grants the CE. It does not track training against your shift roster, and it does not replace hands-on skills training.
